Can Medical Marijuana Play a Role in Weight Loss?

Here at PA Medical Marijuana Doctor, people often ask us if cannabis products can help them reach their weight loss goals. The answer to this question is yes!  Due to how marijuana and CBD products affect the body, they may aid with weight loss in several different ways. Let’s take a look at how.

Helping Older and Younger Patients Lose Weight or Avoid Weight Gain

Older medical marijuana users often manage to increase their mobility as their symptoms of pain and inflammation diminish due to marijuana use. This can help them to become more active, thus possibly helping them to lose or maintain their current weight.

Younger individuals that use medical marijuana reportedly drink less alcohol. Because alcoholic drinks are often packed with sugar and calories, by using marijuana and avoiding alcohol, it can be said that some younger people are also avoiding potential weight gain caused by alcoholic beverages. These people will also prevent the hangovers that come with excessive drinking, and the food cravings that these hangovers encourage.

Blood Sugar Control

When blood sugar levels are high, our cells stop using glucose for energy and develop insulin resistance. This puts people at risk of weight gain and makes them susceptible to diabetes. Medical marijuana can help to reduce inflammation caused by insulin resistance, regulating blood sugar levels so our bodies can metabolize more sugar again.

Reduce Symptoms of Anxiety and Depression

When we are anxious or depressed, we tend to crave sugary foods more, and many of us binge on foods for comfort. This increases our risks of weight gain significantly. Medical marijuana improves mood and helps people to start practicing healthy eating habits.

Encourage a More Active Lifestyle

As medical marijuana promotes pain relief, it makes it generally more comfortable for patients to engage in physical activity once again. Certain strains of medical marijuana give patients an extra burst of energy that can help them to become active. The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD also help peoples muscles to heal without too much pain as a result of intense exercise.
